The Registrar of Voters office is the parish agency through the  Department of State. It is governed by the State of Louisiana and operates under Title 18 of the Louisiana Statutes.

 

"There shall be a registrar of voters for each parish in the state, who shall be appointed by the governing authority of that  parish.The Registrar in each parish shall be responsible for the registration of voters in the parish he serves and for the administration and enforcement of the laws and the rules and regulations relating to the registration of such voters. The Registrar shall be responsible for conducting early voting in the parish he or she serves, and shall be a member of the parish Board of Election Supervisors, who shall conduct all elections in the parish. The Registrar shall employ a Chief Deputy, who shall act in the registrar's behalf, when directed".
